The 40 Hour Work Week – Wrap Up

Wondering what this is all about? Check out the first post: The 40 Hour Work Week Challenge for an explanation.

If you’ve been following along, you already know that things didn’t exactly go as planned. They started out pretty well. I had good momentum on Sunday going into the week. Monday was exhausting, but I made it! Things got a little rough on Tuesday with my morning cheats, but got better on Wednesday. Then everything fell apart on Thursday and Friday, when I sorta kinda abandoned the whole thing. Because I’m only human.

What Went Right

Let’s start on the positive, shall we?

  1. We did not starve.
  2. We managed to keep the house relatively neat. Even if the laundry didn’t exactly get put away and sat in baskets in the living room the whole time and we had to go pick through it to find clean underwear in the morning. At least it was clean!
  3. The kids remembered to rinse their dishes before stacking them on the counter, which saved me much heartache and squickage (I don’t like rinsing other people’s plates!).

What Went Wrong

EVERYTHING! No, not really. But some stuff went wrong. Some of it I could control and some of it I couldn’t.

  1. I did not go to bed early enough to wake up at 6 am.
  2. The pollen count was insanely high and my seasonal allergies went into overdrive, rendering me useless for a good chunk of the day.
  3. I didn’t plan enough. What is it they say? Failing to plan is planning to fail. Sigh. I should have sat down and wrote out an entire menu plan for the week, including snacks and prep tasks. And I had every intention of doing it! But I didn’t. And therein lays my undoing. Next time, I will have an incredibly detailed meal plan. I will write it out and post it on here, even, to force me to do it!

What I Learned

  1. Go to bed on time.
  2. Menu plan every week.
  3. Delegate more.
  4. I really like doing housework all day! I missed it when I couldn’t do it.

Am I defeated? Not in the least. I really do think this is doable. I just haven’t figured out all the tricks yet. I’m going to take a little break and do it again in a couple of weeks.
